Choosing an orthodontist:

A dentist, by law, is permitted to do orthodontics without any specialty training.  Before a practitioner can be called an orthodontist, however, he or she must put in two continuous years of additional study in orthodontics at a university or hospital program accredited by the American Dental Association.

Membership in the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) is one guarantee that the dentist has fulfilled the specialty requirements and is, in fact, an orthodontist.

Dr. Lilley is a member of AAO and has been practicing orthodontics exclusively since his graduation from St. Louis University in 1983.
